Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Philadelphia is pleased to invite submissions for our annual Open Call Exhibition: Daylight. Savings. Time. A curated group exhibition which will run from Jan 9 - Feb 13, 2027, at Tiger Strikes Asteroid in Philadelphia. In addition to the Open Call Exhibition, members review submissions from the Open Call throughout the year in consideration of future curatorial projects.

TSA Philadelphia invites visual artists to submit work for an opportunity to be featured in a curated exhibition that reimagines, questions, and/or explores any of the themes or related themes in our non-exhaustive list.

All mediums explore time. All mediums are welcome. We believe all media is time-based media.

Eligibility 

  • Submissions are open to artists over 18, working in all mediums,

  • Artists from historically under-recognized communities in the arts are encouraged to apply. Under-recognized communities may include those who identify as persons with disabilities, LGBTQ+, Indigenous/Native American/Native Alaskan,  African American/Black, Chicano, Latino/a/X, Asian American and Pacific Islander, women, marginalized immigrant communities, artists with non-traditional art education backgrounds.

  • Artists living outside of Philadelphia are welcome to apply but will be responsible for artwork shipping costs. 

  • At least a third of the artists to be included in this exhibition will be local to the Philadelphia area.

Submission Guidelines 

  • Submission fee is $26 for up to five images and is non-refundable; if this poses a hardship, please contact philadelphia@tigerstrikesasteroid.com for a sliding-scale waiver. Before requesting a waiver, please consider that application fees go directly to support our organizational costs. 

  • Artists who work as a collaborative team or a collective may apply under a single application. 

  • All artwork submitted must be ready to hang or install. 

  • All submissions must be received by 11:59pm on November 1st

Selection Criteria and Acceptance Guidelines

  • Tiger Strikes Asteroid is firmly committed to inviting artists from a wide range of perspectives, art practices, and backgrounds.

  • Artists who are invited to participate in this exhibition are selected by current members of TSA Philadelphia. Our selection process includes checking artist eligibility, considering the feasibility of an artwork installation, reviewing artist statements, and determining which artworks best fulfill the themes of the exhibition. 

  • Professional photographic documentation of the exhibition will also be provided.  

  • All artwork submitted must be ready to hang or install. 

  • Artists are responsible for the delivery of their work. TSA cannot transport work to the gallery. 

  • Work must be received by December 30th of 2026. If hand delivery is not possible the artist is responsible for the cost of shipping or mailing artwork to and from Tiger Strikes Asteroid using FedEx, UPS, or USPS. A return shipping label and return postage must be included with the artwork. 

  • Artist reception: January 14th, 2027, 2024, 6-9 PM 

  • Tiger Strikes Asteroid retains a 30% commission on all art sales made during the exhibition. 

  • Work must be picked up and de-installed by February 26, 2024
