NEW YORK

as if it is

Jun 14 - Jul 13, 2025

Opening Reception: Jun 14, 6 - 8 pm

BROOKLYN, NY – Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York presents as if it is a duo-show by Cléo Sương Mai Richez and William Kim. For four weeks, the New York satellite space turns into a record box of friendship.

as if it is - is about bridging distance.
as if it is - is a place for us to tuck from the summer heat, meet, breathe, and build together.

Over the four weeks of the show, Cléo Sương Mai Richez and William Kim will offer an open community space inhabited by time-specific, collaborative pieces.

Kim will leave on a road trip to Los Angeles, to sleep under blue stars, collect moments of homecoming, and send ephemera of words and photographs from afar, which will inspirit their proxy here. Richez will stay in New York and invite artists, filmmakers and writers, to talk, screen, and read around themes of friendship and trust, bonds and belonging, and memory as home.

For the closing, the two artists will unwrap the distance and reunite in this space. Together, they will speak of rituals of care, interconnectivity through motion, bridges in time, support systems, and sometimes conflict.

as if it is… friendship forever.
as if it is… this place you always reserved for me.
as if it is… that fall doesn’t exist.
as if it is… a vacuum of future promises.
as if it is… spring but under a grey ceiling where only farewell blooms.
as if it is… anarchy or ignorance against time, ticking.
as if it is… your favorite teenage song replayed on all radio channels.
as if it is… a childhood dream that no one sees.
as if it is… you’re grown-up now.
as if it is… summer ‘29 and drought days since you left.
as if it is… whatever it is not.

I found friends forever in this city but didn’t grew friends with this city. After almost two years living homeless and stationary, after all, I must return to my nomadic lifestyle, turn away from a studio-based practice and again towards home in hazard, hitchhiking with hammock, anywhere and adrift. I’ll miss you Cléo”
