PHL / Henry Morales: Los De Aquí

Tiger Strikes Asteroid Philadelphia is proud to present Los De Aquí, a solo exhibition by Henry Morales. In Los De Aquí, Morales explores belonging, identity, and familial resilience across the Guatemalan diaspora by reflecting on the quiet strength found in the everyday lives of his extended family (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc), who live throughout the U.S. Through paintings that incorporate soil and roots collected from their homes and the land they inhabit, Morales affirms their right to belong, thrive, and define life on their own terms.

Reclaiming the phrase Ni de aquí, ni de allá — “neither from here, nor there”— the exhibition asserts: we are from here, too. Morales blends personal geography with everyday moments—family meals, parties, quiet routines—to affirm presence and connection. Los De Aquí honors personal identity and familial memory, celebrating the radical act of living fully beyond borders and binaries.
