Oct 1 - Nov 12, 2021

Asheville & Charleston Gallery Boxes

Tiger Strikes Asteroid Greenville (TSA GVL) is pleased to present vessel | lessev, an exhibition featuring ceramic works by Stormie Burns and Nadia Stieglitz. This exhibition is part of TSA GVL’s public art programming that exhibits art in outdoor gallery boxes in Asheville and Charleston. The exhibiton will be on display until November 12th.

Stormie Burns will exhibit in the Asheville boxes which are at the following five locations:

76 Gertrude Place, 135 Lookout Drive, 65 Kenilworth Road, 74 Tacoma Circle, and 30 Virginia Avenue

Nadia Steglitz will exhibit in the Charleston boxes which are located on The Greenway, between Coburg Road and Timmerman Road.

Burns’ work is an exploration in pushing the boundaries of material, process, proficiency, and form. Throughout the making process the intersection of skill and risk can often be thrilling. With innumerable variables in the slip casting and firing processes, Stormie approaches each of her pieces with an exactness yet stays receptive to chance.

(she also mentions a “balance between soft and angular with an intrinsic lightness.”)

Stormie Burns is a ceramic and glass artist with a focus on mold-making and casting. Originally from central Florida, she relocated to western North Carolina in 2015 where she worked for ceramic artists in the area. She has shown work nationally and internationally as well as completed residences at Haystack School of Craft and Penland School of Craft. In 2019, Stormie completed the two-year Core Fellowship program at Penland. She currently lives in Bakersville, NC.

Stieglitz’s sculptures evoke a multitude of emotions, inviting debate and interpretation among the viewers. Through the juxtaposition of ethereal shapes, raw textures and complex patterns, she creates a world for viewers to enter and explore, and to engage with shapes that capture the soothing nature of the feminine.

Nadia Stieglitz is a French-born artist based in Charleston, South Carolina. Since 2019, her self-taught venture into the three-dimensional medium of clay has allowed her to explore her sensibility for natural textures and anthropomorphic shapes, capturing the intricacies at the intersection of art, nature and human form.
